Which version of a2ps do you use?  apsfilter needs a pretty
recent one (4.13 works).

You can adjust all this stuff in the appropriate
apsfilterrc file (/etc/apsfilter/apsfilterrc for all
printers or /etc/apsfilter/.../apsfilterrc for just one).
Look for ASCII_HEADER and ASCII_BORDER.
