What apsfilter or is it a modified apsfilter. You mention perl.
In fact our apsfilter is a shell script.
Do you REALLY use apsfilter 6.1.1 ??? Or what ?

The begin and end statements should only mark begin and end
of a printer statement and was intended to help apsfilter to
manage printcap entries in the future ....
See it as cosmetic entries ...

Behind the end label you may start adding more printers.
If you like via SETUP (apsfilter) or by hand ...
The functionality of printcap doesn't change even if you
use apsfilter ...

In former times apsfilter needed an APS_BASE declaration to find
its home ... but we got rid of that for a long time ...

In short, I don't understand your statement. It sounds you have
to read the friendly manual, what printcap(5) is for and what
format it has ...

apsfilters SETUP utility already installs printer with proper permissions.
It sounds here as if you don't speak about apsfilter ....

again what version of apsfilter do you use ?

If I remember right somebody told me about a slackware still using
the very very old 4.9.x if so PLEASE IMMEDIATELY DO AN UPGRADE
AND KICK Patrick into its best part of his body ;-)

Well maybe he forgot to upgrade long time ago ;-)

The new apsfilter has a different concept ...

We now have something like /etc/apsfilter or /usr/local/etc/apsfilter
for config files ...

You have an old version ...

In newer versions permissions are fixed .....

I think I can skip this one since you are using a very old version
of apsfilter ...

Debian had an old "hacked" apsfilter re-written in perl ...
Well if its a perl script then I doubt that it is the real apsfilter.
PLEASE CHECK VERSIONS before complaining, everything other is silly
and a WASTE OF TIME.

Well boys, we have internet now and I assume you have the time
to take 5 minutes to check versions and such ....

My experience is, that slackwares print system tended to be behind
the others concerning directories permissions, etc ... There always
was something broken...

If all other Linux users (and I regard Red Hat, SuSE and Debian as
the major Linux releases) had no problem, Slackware came around with
an issue.

See my comments above...
