lpr -C high:cmyk did not work. From the hpdj page, I got the feeling that it 
should maybe be 'presentation' instead of high, but that didn't work either. 
I've tried increasing the print quality to superior in the windows printer 
config, but that didn't make a difference.

Has someone managed to print to a HP1220C ?
