problems printing

Hello.

I have been trying to print under linux for some time now. I first tried
lpd-o-matic, and failed completely (probably due to my own lack of
understanding).

Anyway, I later found out about apsfilter and decided to give it a try.

I ran the SETUP script, and Yipee!!! The test page prints
beautifully. However, after I complete the setup, and I try to run lpr on
some files, it doesn't work. After a long while, the printer spits out
"Unrecoverable error: rangecheck in .putdeviceprops". I've tried printing
plain text to the raw device and the default device, and also lpr-ing the
ghostscript example file "tiger.gs". No luck, same problem.

I'm using: slackware 7.1
kernel: 2.2.16
ghostscript: 6.01
a2ps: 4.13
apsfilter: 5.4.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I'm ALMOST at the
light at the end of the tunnel, cause the test page printed.

Thanks
-Al
