canon troubles

I am still trying to set up my canon BJC-1000 printer on My RedHat Linux
6.1 box.  I think i need to remake the device nodes but i am not sure.
Whenever I try to setup apsfilter and I go to the Test page, it says
/dev/lp0: No Such Device.   so  i tried /dev/lp1 and /dev/lp2 and they
give the same results.  Under windows the printer works fine on LPT1.

If i need to rebuild the device nodes, how do you do that?
