apsfilter prints multiple copies to hpdj 870

I am using Debian GNU/Linux and an HP870C.

I like apsfilter alot. However, I am getting multiple copies of
everything I print.

How can I set up the system to print  a single copy of each document?  

I would also like to send ascii text directly to the printer.  How?
