| Resolution bug fixed in apsfilter (was: Re: Notes on your printing HOWTO) |
I added a "exec > /tmp/out 2>&1" at the top of apsfilter to debug
the problem where apsfilter was hanging my printer and found the
problem.
gs was exiting with the message "-r must be followed by <res> or
<xres>x<yres>" which is what sparked the a2ps broken pipe message in
the log. I traced the setting of -r back to this in /etc/apsfilterrc:
# Some defaults from SETUP...
#
GS_RESOL=x
#
# Some defaults from SETUP...
#
I commented out this setting and all was well. It appears that the
aps setup command (apsfilterconfig on Debian) added this, although I
don't know why. The first time I had run apsfilterconfig, I recall
seeing "default" for the value of resolution, although subsequent
runs showed "xdpi" as the value. I now know why.
Now, after printing, "Printing" still shows on the display instead
of the date. Not a showstopper, but annoying.
The /tmp/files* are still not being removed.
Still haven't figured out how to adjust the print quality.
