| Please help - JetDirect blues |
Dear all, please help me with this!!!!!!! My setup: JetDirect EX Plus - Laserjet 5P - lprold spooling stuff - Ghostscript 5.50. The apsfilter script says: # apsfilter Line Printer Input Filter # Version: SuSE-1.8 # Copyright 1996-2000 SuSE GmbH # Author: Werner Fink <werner@suse.de> # NOTE: You really NEED bash to run this script # (Not)Heavily based on apsfilter-4.9 ... (Please don't flame me for not running the latest apsfilter, I happen to have a SuSE 7.0 installation right out of the box so I thought it should work just like that. When things got hard, I downloaded apsfilter 6.0 but couldn't manage to get on with it either so I'm back to the installation packages. :P ) First I make a remote printer by using SuSE's YAST tool and then set up the 'logical' auto, raw, ascii printers pointing to it. The 'remote' printer works -- it outputs the normal staircase-effect text. I can even get decent output by addressing the 'ascii' printer. When I come to "lpr something.ps" the queues in /var/spool/lpd show some activity, then the JetDirect gizmo flashes, then the printer blinks for some seconds, then nothing. I had the JetDirect redirect output to my syslog. I see this from time to time: Mar 14 12:00:55 jetdirect printer: offline or intervention needed Mar 14 12:00:57 jetdirect printer: error cleared Apart from that, no mail, no logs, no errors. Could there be something wrong with the PCL being generated? When I purposedly send a supposedly PCL file to the 'remote' printer all I get is one or two blank pages. I have selected lj5gray and lj5mono drivers for the logical printers, same results. The printer name on the JetDirect is alternatively raw or lp, same results. How can I make this work?
