If you get a postscript printer then you just setup Ghostscript to
produce raw postscript. If you don't then you'll have to look at the
Ghostscript website to find out what driver you need to use.

The postscript option is likely to be a hardware option ie the printer
will accept raw postscript and then do the necessary to print it.
I'd really go for this option despite the fact that it will likely
cost a bit more. It's generally a lot less hassle printing under
unix/linux with postscript as most programs will output postscript or
their output can be easily converted to postscript and you're not
dependent on a possibly buggy GS driver. Anyway, isn't ps the `lingua
franca' in the publishing world?
With regards your `emulation' question, I'm not too sure what you
mean. Are you asking about printing from Windows which is running in
an emulator under linux? If so I'm not too sure what the answer is - I
guess it depends on which emulator you are using and how well it
handles the Windows printer drivers as the emulator will call the
Windows printing sub-system or it's emulation of it, which maybe
completely independent of lpr/apsfilter. Really it's a question that
you're best off aiming at a Wine or some such mailing list/newsgroup.
Also be warned that in my experience the Windows printer drivers are
likely to produce PCL rather than postscript.
