The gimp-print package has a driver for the S400. Get it from
gimp-print.sourceforge.net (get the latest 4.1.6 version), compile
it into ghostscript (maybe you can find a package for your
distribution that already includes it) and select the driver
in SETUP: gimp-print/stp -> Canon S400.
