| Printing to multiple, identical network printers |
Hello all,
I've done a similar post in the chat, but it was probably lacking enough
detail to merit a response.
Here we go again:
System...: SuSe Linux 7.1 out-of-the-box
Apsfilter: Version SuSe 1.8
Printers.: 3 Brother HL1250 (accepts LaserJet 4 600 dpi emulation)
PServers.: 3 NetGear PS110 (two parallel ports)
Preface:
The 3 printer/printserver combos are hooked to the IP network and are named
s6_netgear, s7_netgear and s8_netgear respectively. Only port 1 is used,
queued to q6_port1, q7_port1 and q8_port1 respectively.
Using lprsetup I configured s7 (resulting in the "remote" entry), added
the filters - no problem. Printouts o.k.
I proceeded to add s6, and the resulting entry resulted in a
"s6_netgear-q6_port1" entry, aliased as lp5. So far, so good.
Problem:
I cannot add filtering to lp5, since the drivers are exact matches to lp1
("remote"). Trying to do so, results in the following message:
Printer entry:
/var/lib/apsfilter/apsfilter.setup:
Entry ### ljet4 a4 mono 600 ### exists
How can I reference three identical printer / printserver combos? If the
"automatic" setup does not support this scenario, is there a manual
workaround?
I've tried editing the apsfilter script, copying it to apsfilter2, adjusting links, creating manual spool dirs, etc. - all to no avail.
Here's my /etc/printcap:
