Could you both enable debugging in apsfilter (set -x) and send
the result of one print session to this list.
Then we could compare, if gs is really executed the same way.
I suggest you both simply print the testpage with no -C or -Z
parameters...

Maybe then we all get a clue whats really happening.
And you both should perform gs -h, then we see the gs version
in use.
