Have you restarted your printer spooler? It's wierd that you
can print the test page, but not normal files, since the
apsfilter settings will be the same...

I suspect the ijs drivers (hpijs 1.0) to be seriously broken;
the data stream seems to include wrong control sequences, as
some other user has reported.

How does apsfilter get "ron" as an option? This warning is
only emitted if "ron" is part of the -C or -Z options...

Which program is giving this error message?

I don't think it's ghostscript; error code -4 means
"dictionary stack underflow" -- probably unrelated to
"read error".

Which printer spooler are you using? Does Slackware still
have the old BSD-lpd on board? I highly recommend switching
to LPRng.

This could be almost anything...
