Rebooted, re-installed, etc. Yes it is weird that it will print the test page but not normal files. I just tried apsfilter-7.2.0 and it does the same thing. >> I have a HP Photosmart 1115 printer. This could be so but I still don't understand why the test print works but normal printing won't. >> The only log file that has anything pertainent is >> /var/spool/lpd/lp/log: > > apsfilter warning: unknown option 'ron' > > How does apsfilter get "ron" as an option? I've looked at the resulting apsfilter script but only find references to $HOST. >> unable to read client data err=-4 > > Which program is giving this error message? > > I don't think it's ghostscript; error code -4 means > "dictionary stack underflow" -- probably unrelated to > "read error". > > Which printer spooler are you using? All I have to go on is what I found in the /var/spool/lpd/lp/log messages. Yes, Slackware-8.0 is still using BSD-lpd. Will try LPRng if you think it will help. Tried CUPS but didn't have much luck with it either... >> AFPL Ghostscript 7.03: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1 > > This could be almost anything... The hostname of the machine I'm using is "ron" which is where I assumed it was getting this for an option. >> I was able to select the HP970 driver at one time and print. Probably true. I just got the printer, found the IJS driver, downloaded the latest apsfilter code and tried it. Needless to say, I'm dissapointed so far. > HTH > Michael > > > > > References: > problem with apsfilter-7.1.1 > From: Ron Grigg > > Prev by Date: Re: SETUP and ghostscript and other problems. . . > Next by Date: message printed on all my jobs > Prev by thread: problem with apsfilter-7.1.1 > Next by thread: message printed on all my jobs > Index(es): > Date > Thread > Like most people, I guess I want my cake and eat it too. ;) I'm sure the problem will be worked out sometime soon. Till then I can get by using the HP970 driver and if I want/need high res color I can boot to Winbloz. Thanks For The Response. Ron
