| installation failed: LPRng & HP JetDirect |
Greetings.
I am running Debian 3.0 ("Woody") on a Pentium system. I successfully
installed apsfilter 6.1.1-6, then installed LPRng 3.8.4-2. All these
currently are in the Debian "testing" archives.
Next, I successfully used apsfilterconfig to install a local Postscript
printer (HP LJ5M connected to the parallel port), printing a perfect test
page.
Then, in the same session of apsfilterconfig, I attempted to install a
network Postscript printer (HP LJ4100N with JetDirect interface), but was
unable to print a test page--the printer gave no indication that data was
received.
The 4100N is at IP address 192.168.1.77 on the local network (home
office), and prints at 1200 dpi resolution. The parameters I entered are
as follows:
1. printer driver selection:
type=Postscript
driver=PS_1200dpi
2. interface setup:
interface=unix/network printer (lpd)
machine name/IP address=192.168.1.77
queue name=raw (per the "hint" provided by apsfilterconfig)
3. paper format:
US letter
5. color mode:
monochrome (1 bpp)
Is it proper to run apsfilterconfig each time a printer is added? If so,
do previously-installed printers have to be reconfigured, or just the
printer being added?
Regards,
RLH
