I almost expected an answer like this. :-)
Well, I have been working on the problem the whole afternoon and couldn't 
solve it (which doesn't count for much, as I'm far from being an expert in 
printing issues). But while doing so I restarted lpd at least a dozend times, 
so this really cannot be the problem. I also added an additional echo-command 
to the apsfilter-filter script that printed ok, so aps is really started for 
printing. However, I couldn'd find any error-messages or other signs of
misconfiguration.

Thanks for your fast reply. Unfortunately I still don't know where else I
could look for the misconfiguration. Are there any other hints (I know
I should try a fortune-teller with this kind of error-report :-)?
