OK,

I read your mail again a little bit more thoroughly. 8-)
So, you use Debian Linux.

But:
your printcap tells me that you do NOT use apsfilter at all!

You will definitely have to setup apsfilter after installation! ;-)
Apsfilter does not guess what printers you want to use.
