Help with HPdj612c and Slack8.1

I have a problem!!
I've got a Slackware 8.1 system with Apsfilter installed to handle printing to
my HPdj 612c.
It's even configured, really.
But I get gibberish and
                    PostScript code,
                                 that sorta goes like this,
                                                          when it prints at all.

Sometimes it just makes the printer lights blink and doesn't even print.
And the info in the manual is way too much "why is this happening" info and
not enuf "do this to fix it" info. In SETUP it's set on "auto" not "raw"...so
why is this happening??

Can someone help me???
