I assume your hpijs version is too old.
And maybe you have "compiled in" the wrong
stuff into gs ...

To give you some more understanding...

HP brought out different versions of the
hpijs, some introduced themself in gs as
ijs some as hpijs .. I don't know which came
first.

The real bad thing is, that the newer ijs versions
had an incompatible commandline syntax to older versions.

If I look at the gs and hpijs port in the FreeBSD ports
collection, which I don't maintain anymore, I simply notice,
that the hpijs port has version 1.3. Your's has 1.1.

Another thing I noticed is, that my gs -h output shows
a compiled in ijs driver ... yours a hpijs driver ...

Since I don't know who in Slackware packages the stuff
on CD (which releases), I'd recommend you to update
your ghostscript port manually. Use the latest gs version
and the latest hpijs version.

The apsfilter's SETUP will find the desired ijs driver
and everything will run.

I use gs 7.04, which reports to use the ijs driver.
And the installed hpijs version on my system is a 1.3

That should do the trick.
