I am sorry, I have no help for you. However, I wanted to make a comment 
in regards to your problem.

  For years I used apsfilter, but ever since release 7.x, which is 
supposed to be "better" than 6.x.x, I could never do the upgrade 
installation due to many printing problems, problems like the one you 
are having. I eventually got a hold of another printing manager from 
RedHat, which is inferior than apsfilter, but that does print documents 
without much ado!

Good luck and if you get apsfilter to work, please, please, document as 
much as you can and let us know about it.
