Printing problems

I have not been able to print successfully in OpenOffice using my linux Slackware 8.1 system. I have an Epson Stylus Color 740 printer. I installed Apsfilter, and also Turboprint all to no avail. I can, however, print other documents e.g. in Koffice, various text editors etc., but not OpenOffice.

I also run other linux distros (Mandrake 8.2 and Red Hat 7.3) and I don’t have a similar problem with these. With them, printing does not present a problem, but Red Hat uses the CUPS system. Mandrake runs quite happily on CUPS or Lpd. Can you help?
