try setting 

	HARDWARE_DUPLEX=set

and (if you mostly want duplex)

	DUPLEX=set

in your corresponding apsfilterrc.

for non duplex-prints, you can still override the setting on the
commandline with the "simplex" parameter, on a case-by-case basis.
